Dude,
If you want to play the AVI in dvd players, it has to coded back to DVD (i.e VOB) format. However, there are latest DVD players that are Div-x compatible. That means they can play avi files directly. You can burn them into dvd-r or dvd+r discs (not sure about cd-r discs). Some of the div-x compatible players are Philips dvp-642, Astar dvx-6881, Lasonic dvp-7050 are available in US.
Hope this helps.

எனக்கும் தான் இந்த உதவி தேவை. VCD'ஆக மாற்றினால் ஒரு CDயிலேயே காப்பியடிக்கலாமாம். ஆனால் அதன் தரம் போய் விடுமாம்.

Visit www.Divx.Com. From there you can download the latest Divx Create Pack. That will let you create DivX files. It is very much possible that your AVI files are already in DivX format. The advantage of DivX 6.2 is that it supports various menus and stuff just like a DVD but still, the file stize will be same as the DVD and you can write it to a DVD but to play it back with all the menus, you need DivX certified players. Today many cheap players are there in the market. You'll need to download a free software called DivX media builder (the name could be slightly different). Using this you can do all that menu stuff you wanted inside a DivX codec based AVI file. Write to me @ madhusudhananr@gmail.com if you have any doubts.
